The Mission
America SCORES Chicago empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. With teamwork as the unifying principle, America SCORES inspires youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be invested students, and become agents of change in their communities. America SCORES currently serves more than 500 at-risk K-8th grade students exclusively in under-resourced communities in Chicago.
The Success
America SCORES has been recognized by two consecutive Presidential administrations for excellence in arts-based youth development and as a model for fighting childhood obesity in the after-school space.
A variety of evaluations consistently show that participants improve their literacy skills, increase their aerobic capacity, improve their personal eating habits, and engage in more independent reading time and exercise at home.
Additionally, every team in America SCORES designs and carries out a student-directed service learning problem addressing challenges they identify in their community. Students work together to improve their neighborhood while learning the power their individual and collective voice can have.

What Makes America SCORES Unique
America SCORES tackles three of the biggest challenges facing youth today: childhood obesity, low literacy and academic underachievement, and poor decision making. America SCORES' diverse program builds unique and lasting connections between:
- teamwork on the field and teamwork in the classroom.
- developing a voice in writing and being heard in the community.
- good sportsmanship and engaged citizenship.
- healthy choices on Game Day and healthy choices for life.
- identifying challenges and the responsibility to be part of solutions.
